Indian oil and gas firms are displaying a renewed appetite for mergers and acquisitions. Reliance Industries, India's biggest company by market value, has made a cash offer for bankrupt chemicals giant Lyondell-Basell Industries, while the Mumbai-based Ruia family has offered Royal Dutch Shell a 10% stake in Essar Oil to help finance the Indian firm's purchase of three Shell refineries in Europe.
