The Obama administration is pressing ahead with preparations to allow the gathering of new seismic data in federal waters off the US Atlantic Coast in an effort to better understand its potential for oil and gas development. Earlier this year, the Interior Department's Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) held a series of 13 public meetings about the plan. And late last week the bureau said it aims to publish an environmental impact statement about East Coast seismic data acquisition by late 2012.
