US Reviews Royalty Rates

The US Interior Department said Monday that it will begin comparing US oil and gas royalty rates with those in force in other countries in order to study whether the US is getting a “fair return” from producers. The announcement follows earlier statements from Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, who said last year that the US should fall into line with other countries that claim a greater share of oil and gas revenues (OD Mar.20,’09,p1).
