Mumbai faces a power shortage of around 690 MW and the deficit can only be made up if incremental power capacity is put on stream through supply of a higher quantum of gas. Domestic power provider Tata Power is seeking 3.15 mmscmd of additional gas to boost its capacity. The company has asked for the conversion of fallback allocation of 0.95 MMSCMD of K-G basin gas to the Trombay Unit-4 (150 MW) into firm allocation, for putting stranded capacity in service.
