This past month the spigot opened for energy companies to issue equity, prompted by the need to fortify balance sheets, mitigate the risk of potential credit downgrades and buy breathing room to execute asset sales, among other factors. Leading the charge were Devon Energy Corp., Marathon Oil Corp. and Hess Corp., each completing offerings of over $1 billion.
