Russia, currently the world's largest gas exporter, appears worried about the effects of U.S. shale gas on pricing and possible liquefied natural gas (LNG) development in Africa. According to Natural Gas Europe, President Putin urged Gazprom to revise export policies to help Russia maintain its revenue income. Russian oil and gas revenues provide about 80% of the entire Russian budget (Gazprom had about $44 billion in profits in 2011).
