In Russia, oil and gas fields are developed primarily in the northern latitudes, in extremely low temperatures and in environments that often lack appropriate infrastructure. Sensors often fail under such conditions due to a number of causes such as subzero temperatures, power shortages or cable lines torn up by heavy machinery.
