TransCanada sets sights beyond Keystone XL for oil sands

The long road to development for the Keystone XL Pipeline is expected to finally end in the first quarter of 2013, as TransCanada Corp. officials anticipate that the U.S. Department of State will formally award the project a Presidential Permit. In September, the company submitted a supplemental environmental report to the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ), which includes preferred alternative routes for the 1,179-mile project. These new routes were designed to alleviate environmental concerns related to the project's original route.
