Australia: Oil production has started at the Van Gogh field offshore Western Australia, operated by US-based Apache Corp. Located in the Exmouth Basin in the WA-35-L permit area, the project is Apache's first field development to use a floating production, storage and offloading vessel. Apache holds a 52.5% interest in the field, with Japan's Inpex holding the remainder. The company is involved in several other projects in Western Australia and plans to invest $1 bn in these projects over the course of 2010, funding exploration and production activities.
