Myanmar has offered 18 blocks to foreign companies in a major new upstream licensing round in the latest attempt by the government to boost production to meet the expected rise in demand. At the same time, the government has indicated a shift in energy policy away from exporting gas and toward using it domestically. The move has prompted neighboring Thailand to reassess its gas policy, which has been based in part on securing additional supplies from Myanmar.
