Trading was curtailed as many markets closed for Good Friday. Crude prices nevertheless went up sharply despite data showing a build in US stock levels. Crude supplies across the Atlantic Basin were reported as ample with surplus barrels noted in the US Gulf and in the Mediterranean, where sour crudes were seen to be in oversupply. hi Europe and Asia, heavy fuel oil prices weakened as too many sellers chased the small number of buyers there. The only bright spot appeared to be gasoline, which looked to be driving both crude and product prices upwards. A fire at a refinery on the US West Coast on Good Friday led to a gasoline shortage along the Pacific Rim and helped to set up the following week for further price rises.
