As political and economic tensions over the conflict in Ukraine continue between Brussels and Moscow and global gas market prices decline, European energy policy makers and market players seek to reduce Europe's energy dependency on imports of Russian gas. The Ukrainian pipeline system carries 40-50 percent of Russian gas to Europe, but delivery volumes have fallen as the conflict escalated. In January-February, the supply via Ukraine plunged by 38.8 percent year-on-year to 7.9 billion cubic meters, TASS news agency reported.
