Rotary Steerable System: a New Twist in the Evolution of Downhole Drilling Systems

In 2012, Orenburgneft pilot-tested the Rotary Steerable System (RSS), which provides full 3-dimensional directional control while maintaining drill string rotation. The pilot demonstrated significant reduction in time using slide, which makes it possible to use that technology for drilling extended reach wells.
