Today's keen Chinese interest in natural resources is based largely on, but is by no means limited to, oil and gas. With fully one-fifth of the world's population—many of whom are rapidly becoming substantial consumers—China is making numerous resource inroads into minerals and mining, as well as the building materials needed to promote growth and a higher standard of living.
