A horizontal drilling play in the Lower Permian Wolfcamp is piquing interest in northwestern Eddy and southern Chaves counties,New Mexico.This could become another hot development area for natural gas operators.The Wolfcamp has a history of production in this region,but wells completed in the tight reservoir were only marginally economic,hamstrung by sub-par rates,modest recoveries and low commodity prices.More than 20 vertical wells have produced from the Wolfcamp at depths of about 5,000 feet,but the best well made 782 million cubic feet of gas during 16 years onstream.
