Gazprom Burenie: New Approach to Services

Gazprom Burenie was founded in 1997 on the basis of Gazprom's production units' drilling directorates, and 14 years later the gas monopoly's drilling arm started to operate as an independent player in the services market. In 2011, Gazprom Burenie adopted the strategy that set a task to diversify its orders by 40 percent in three years. As Gazprom Burenie board member and deputy general director for strategic development Damir Valeyev told journalists in mid-November, in two-and-a-half years the company managed to expand diversification from 1 percent in 2011 to 59 percent of actual volume in 2014. "In the Urengoi area alone we have 12 customers," Valeyev said. Urengoi Burenie, the largest of Gazprom Burenie's five subsidiaries (celebrates its 35th anniversary this year), drilled virtually all wells operated by Gazprom in the Yamal Nenets Autonomous District; today, this subsidiary is the largest drilling company on the Yamal Peninsula. It's not surprising that Gazprom Burenie's services were demanded by Rosneft's subsidiary Rospan International, which recently started development of Achimov deposits at the Novo-Urengoi field (Gazprom Burenie also provides drilling services to Rosneft's Verkhnechonskneftegaz (VChNG) and Orenburgneft).
