Top drive system (TDS) significantly facilitates the work of specialists during drilling operations. Irrespective of the position of the drilling string,with the help of TDS it can be rotated in any direction.The first TDS were designed and manufactured by American specialists in the early 1980s. These systems took the place of the traditional method of drilling string rotation with the help of kelly. As a result,a new type of drilling machine was designed - DDM (Derrick Drilling Machine),which meant a significant leap forward in drilling equipment development.
