Kurdish exports surge, oil workers go on strike and US shale oil firms turn to rail transport

Iraq's parliament was asked by its Oil and Energy Committee to ban future oil contracts with foreign companies until the country's long-delayed hydrocarbons legislation was approved. Output, however, continued to rise and exports were reported at a post-invasion high of 2.3 mn bpd. Output from the area controlled by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) was estimated at 250,000 bpd in July, of which 180,000 bpd were exported-the highest total so far. The KRG said that it expected exports to reach 200,000 bpd by the end of 2011.
