An Edinburgh-based company - Hydraf act Ltd. - has developed an innovative device which allows accurate monitoring, regulation and early warning of gas hydrate inhibitor concentrations in oil and gas pipelines, helping avoid costly blockages. Currently, hydrate formation conditions must be estimated taking into account a wide range of factors including water cut, salinity, and inhibitor loss to hydrocarbon phases - all of which can change significantly over short timescales.
