LUKOIL Western Siberia, Povkhneftegaz and NewTech Services Successfully Carry Out Insulation of Oil Well Casing Leak Sections with Use of Expandable Systems

The current situation in oil and gas industry is determined by a number of factors including falling oil prices with pretty unclear prospects for a rebound into the "comfort zone" of $70-80 per barrel, and sectoral sanctions against Russia's petroleum sector. Equally important is the state of Russia's main oil and gas assets -production at the majority of fields is in decline and in coming years it could significantly drop1. In this connection two issues need to be dealt with very soon. First of all, oil production needs to be sustained at the current level, and this requires raising efficiency of oilfield operation and boosting the actual oil recovery factor. Secondly, hydrocarbon resources need to be replenished continually, which means that follow-up exploration of existing and exploration of new oil and gas wells need to be carried out. Meanwhile, the second task is a rather difficult one, taking into account the high degree of exploration maturity of traditional oil-producing regions, whereas an entry into areas that lack infrastructure such as offshore or the northern part of East Siberia requires significant investments.
