Cenovus and Suncor team up on cleantech fund

After talking the talk and encouraging oil companies to work together for the last little while, Cenovus is now walking the walk on afirst-of-its-kind project with Suncor. Each company has announced a commitment to invest up to $50 million over 10 years in Evok Innovations, a fund to be used to accelerate the development and commercialization of potentially game-changing clean technologies focused on the oil and gas industry. Suncor and Cenovus are partnering with BC Cleantech CEO Alliance to provide the money, expertise and access to clients necessary for entrepreneurs to bring their environmental and economic solutions successfully from concept to commercialization. "I think it is a great step forthe energy sector and, again, is an example of collaboration," says Evok's chief executive officer, Marty Reed. "We think we can bring a lot of value with this different approach, not only as a standalone company but more by really linking together a lot of the great organizations that have already been put in place. We feel that we fill a very important piece of that puzzlethat was missing."
