Pulping power

Pulp mills around the world are wasting untold amounts of power every day, and they don't even realize it. But an Alberta company may help change that with its plan to harness the energy of effluent. The Alberta government will provide $17.5 million in funding for a waste-to-energy project at the Millar Western Forest Products Ltd. pulp mill in Whitecourt, Alta. The mill will be installing technology that converts organic liquid waste into biogas, which will be used to generate power and heat for use on site.
