'Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach certainly had his share of critics as 2009 drew to a close. The sour economy and a bleak outlook for natural gas drilling didn't help his popularity. One of Stelmach's chief critics of late has been Danielle Smith, new leader of the Wildrose Alliance Party. Smith argues the Stelmach government destroyed Alberta's reputation as a safe and predictable place to do business when it changed the royalty regime. She has said the Alliance would change royalties again if it gains power.
