OPEC members all see the giant problem. The cartel's March Monthly Oil Market Report has a terrifying graph that shows their crude production stuck for years at 30 million barrels per day while world supply surges. In the 1970s, the group accounted for 60 per cent of global production; today, that measure is less than 40 percent. And its share of the overall market is shrinking. With world oil demand flat at the moment, somebody somewhere is going to have to curb production. For OPEC, that somebody is, of course, the North American unconventional liquids producer.
