REVVING UP ELECTRIC VEHICLECHARGING SPEEDS

Drivers in Vaughan, Ont., have an extra incentive to go electric now. Local utility provider PowerStream has unveiled a level-three charger at its headquarters in the city. For no fee, electric vehicle owners can charge up their cars in less than 30 minutes. The station charges at a rate 10 times faster than a level-two unit. But that doesn't mean level-two chargers are obsolete. PowerStream also installed two of the slower units with a solar carport. Described by the company as the first commercial vehicle-to-grid power system in North America, the system allows the car battery to level out peak loads by sending power back to the grid during times of high electricity demand.
