When veteran earth scientists speculate, as some do, that the next big western Canadian discovery will be outside Alberta, change is afoot in the oil and gas industry. The easy explanation, preferred by the political right and financial analysts, was the May 5 election of a New Democrat regime in Alberta. An explanation supported by evidence surfaced six weeks later when the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources held a B.C. Day in Calgary.
