On July 26, 2010, Line 6B on the Lakehead pipeline system ruptured, releasing 20,000 barrels of oil into the Michigan ecosystem. Over 8,000 barrels of that oil found its way into Talmadge Creek and the Kalamazoo River. Enbridge Inc., owner and operator of the pipeline, has since spent over $1 billion on the cleanup. The cost to the company's reputation has been incalculable.
