This electric car company lost the race. So why does it feel like a winner? Smart Canada recently pitted its smart fortwo electric vehicle against three different high-end gasoline-powered cars in a drag race. Unsurprisingly, all three gas engines thoroughly walloped their electric rival. Yet smart Canada is claiming a victory of sorts. The company argues that a strong standing start is more important than long-distance speed on crowded city streets. The smart fortwo loses on long runs, but it matches or even beats the competitors when the finish line is five metres from the start.
