Ten years ago, when Galveston LNG Inc. chief executive officer Alfred Sorensen started trying to drum up investment for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Kitimat, B.C., he had the right place, the right resource, the right partners and exactly the wrong plan. What Sorensen had in mind-an import facility in Kitimat that would regassify LNG from places like Qatar and Australia for use in British Columbia-was the complete reverse of the direction that North America would take in just five years.
