Norway is reported to be rolling in dough while Alberta is roiling with regret. Don't believe everything you read. Although eye-popping headlines in January said everyone in Norway is theoretically a millionaire thanks to the country's oil wealth, the facts are less salacious than the fantasy. We're talking about a million Norwegian Krones, which is equivalent to about $180,000; we're talking about accumulated funds in the country's Government Pension Fund, about four per cent of which is transferred to Norway's general coffers every year; and we're talking about assets without taking into account liabilities, which are sizable.
