Kinder Morgan Inc. had grown too large for its current corporate structure. Its solution? Get even bigger. In a major restructuring move, the company has acquired affiliated units Kinder Morgan Energy Partners L.P., Kinder Morgan Management LLC and El Paso Pipeline Partners LPfor US$71 billion. The resulting company will own 80,000 miles of pipeline and hold over US$140 billion in assets, making it not only the largest energy infrastructure company in North America, but also the third largest energy company overall, according to a statement released by Kinder Morgan.
