The gates to the east are opening up for western Canadian oil producers. Enbridge Inc.'s Line 9B reversal and Line 9 expansion plan have been approved by the National Energy Board (NEB). The decision complements the NEB's 2012 ruling in favour of reversing the flow of Line 9A and allows the company to increase Line 9 capacity from 240,000 barrels per day to 300,000 barrels per day. The 831-kilometre pipeline will ship western Canadian heavy oil and Bakken crude to eastern Canadian refineries.
