COULD NORTHERN GATEWAY BE THE GREENEST PIPELINE EVER?

The National Energy Board's (NEB's) joint-review panel (JRP) recommendation to approve Enbridge Inc.'s Northern Gateway project, a proposed pipeline connecting Alberta's oilsands to British Columbia's west coast, is a promising step toward export market diversification for Canada's energy industry. It's also a veritable regulatory miracle of efficiency in contrast to the Mackenzie Valley Pipeline process, which dragged out for years before being approved—but well after the shale gas revolution made the line a non-starter. As for Northern Gateway, however, it's still early days before any shovel hits the dirt.
