As stormwater runoff quality standards tighten, the days of regulators rubber-stamping any old hole in the ground to collect water are ending. "Nobody really measured the effectiveness of stormwater runoff ponds, so we applied computer and physical modelling to deal with large-volume runoff and improve the treatment," says Bernie Amell, co-owner with Cory Albers of Calgary-based Nautilus Ponds Inc.
