It's one of the highest-profile positions in the Alberta government, a tough role not fit for the faint of heart or thin of skin. And it's now in the hands of a rookie MLA. Ken Hughes, first-time representative for Calgary-West, has been appointed Alberta's new energy minister. Premier Alison Redford unveiled her new cabinet early in May following the Progressive Conservatives' surprise victory in the April election. Hughes takes over from former energy minister Ted Morton, who was among a handful of Tory cabinet members that failed to hold onto their seats.
