At the height of construction activity at the Scotford upgrader site near Edmonton, Shell Canada Limited had about 10,000 people on the project. Along with other recent expansion work on Shell's Jackpine mine, some 80,000 workers passed through the gates over a five-year period. At the head of all this activity sits John Abbott, executive vice-president of heavy oil at Shell Canada.
