Total E&P Canada president and chief executive officer Jean-Michel Gires is riding a major new wave of oilsands success - parent company Total S.A.'s $1.5-billion buy-in this summer to the joint venture that will lead the Fort Hills mine into production. Nine months into his Canadian posting, Gires, a French citizen, wrapped up negotiations to capture junior UTS Energy's 20 per cent piece of the project, a sale UTS had earlier spurned.
