Stronger demand will make for better market prospects in 2000 although new shipyard deliveries cast a pall over this. To the relief of ship owners and brokers, not only has the new millennium dawned free of Y2K computer problems, but there has been a positive start to it all as well. This could well prove to be the pivotal year between recession and recovery for dry bulk sector interests. Brokers generally predict better market prospects for the year based on stronger demand conditions, but these may well be swamped by continuing new deliveries from shipyards.
