S2 centralizers have been run with high effectiveness in shale rock completions, it's announced.They have been proven in narrow and lenticular formations where it's most effective to drill horizontally. On one intermediate casing string where the drill team was building the curve to go horizontal - they ran S2 through the curve, then on the horizontal production string - 3,000 to 7,000-ft extended reach. Another operation was 10,000 to 12,000-ft of horizontal reach.S2 is designed to perform with the least amount of friction and rig torque in an extended reach shale play environment. The centralizers are generally run one per packer which with an average-spacing of 200 to 250 ft on completions, results in around two centralizers for every 400 ft of casing.
