Mobil Fined for 2015 New Zealand Spill

Mobil Oil New Zealand (Mobil) was recently fined NZ $288,000 (about US $196,150) for an April 2015 spill of what is now believed to have been approximately 530 to 1,590 gallons (13 to 38 barrels) of heavy fuel oil into Tauranga Harbor (New Zealand). This is less than half of the maximum possible penalty of NZ $600,000 (nearly US $409,000), but adds to the NZ $1.8 million (US $1.23 million) Mobil has already paid in reimbursements for cleanup costs and other fees.
