Santa Barbara Spill Cleanup and Investigation Continues

The current estimate of oil spilled from a ruptured Plains All American Pipeline in Santa Barbara County (California, USA) is 101,000 gallons (2,405 barrels) (see OSIR, 9 June 2015). At least 21,000 gallons (500 barrels) of the spilled oil flowed into the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 97 miles (156 kilometers) of shoreline were impacted by the spilled oil. Two state beaches remain closed and a fishing ban is in place. Progress is being made; approximately 76% of the impacted shoreline has now been cleaned of oil.
