Australian Lawyers Call for Action on Montara Legacy

In August 2009, a well in the Timor Sea north of Australia owned by PTT Exploration & Production Australasia Public Company Limited (PTTEP) exploded and began leaking sweet light crude oil, gas, and condensate (seeOSIR, 27 August 2009 and subsequent issues). The Montara well was finally capped on 3 November 2009, having leaked between 31,600 and 158,000 barrels (1.3 million to 6.6 million gallons) of oil and condensate. Theincident was the largest offshore spill in Australian history. PTTEP accepted responsibility for the incident.
