USCG Releases Bow Mariner Casualty Report(cont'd)

The US Coast Guard(USCG)Investigation into the Explosion and Sinking of the Chemical Tanker Bow Mariner in the Atlantic Ocean on 28 February 2004 with Loss of Life and Pollution was released on 3 January 2006.The investigation was conducted in cooperation with the Maritime and Port Authority(MPA)of Singapore,the flag state(see OSIR,5 January 2006).The cause of this casualty was determined to be the ignition of a fuel/air mixture,either on deck or in the cargo tanks,that was within its flammable limits.The ignition source could not be precisely determined.
