Barge Adrift in Heavy Seas Off North Carolina

Maritrans Operating Company L.P.confirmed on 18 January 2006 that six-members of the nine-man crew of the 135-foot(41-m)sea-going tug Valour were rescued by the US Coast Guard(USCG)and a nearby tug after the vessel sank in heavy seas approximately 37 miles(56 km)off the coast of Cape Fear North Carolina,USA.Two crew members are known to be deceased,and one crew member remains missing at press time.The tug was towing the Maritrans tank barge M 192,and began taking on water in heavy seas late in the evening of 17 January.
