Norfolk Southern Railway Settles Over 2005 Spill

Norfolk Southern Railway Company has agreed to pay US $4 million in civil penalties to resolve violations of the US Clean Water Act and hazardous materials laws stemming from a 6 January 2005 accident that resulted in a chlorine and diesel fuel spill in Graniteville, South Carolina (USA). A consent decree was filed in the case in early March 2010 in the US District Court for the District of South Carolina.
