The World Trade Organization's rebuke of China's appeal of U.S. restrictions on Chinese tire imports shows that the U.S. acted within the framework of WTO rules in enacting the measures two years ago. Entering the third year of the U.S. sanctions, data show the policy has been a success at slowing the number of tires being imported from China, but hasn't stopped the increase of total tire imports. The value of U.S. tire imports passed the S10 billion mark in 2010, with China accounting for about 20% of the total. In 2008, China was responsible for over 25% of the S9.3 billion worth of tire imports by the U.S.
