Effect of feeding starter mixed feed to suckling pigs on their reproductive qualities.

An experiment was conducted to determine the effect of feeding starter mixed feed to suckling pigs on their reproductive performance. 10 sows were used in this study wherein after farrowing their piglets were divided into a control and experimental group (fed with starter mixed feed, containing 51.3% extruded maize, 8.55% extruded wheat, 17.1% extruded oats, 8.55% sunflower oil cake, 5.0% dry milk, 5.0% dry skim milk, 1.0% sugar, 0.35 salt, 1.7% calcium carbonate, 1.5% premix). After the feeding experiment results showed that feeding starter mixed feed to piglets from age 7 to 60 days reduced the age at first mating and number of unfertilized replacement gilts, it also increased the number of piglets born alive and piglet birth weight, volume of ejaculate, sperm number of boars, and significantly reduced the number of pathological and immature sperm.Notes translated from Doklady Rossiiskoi Akademii Sel'skokhozyaistvennykh Nauk (2010) No. 2, 38-40 (Ru)
