Experiments were conducted during 2005-07 to identify sources of photoperiod sensitivity and earliness, to show the possibility of identifying and selecting under short-day conditions weakly photoperiod-sensitive oat lines, to determine the length of the period from seedling to heading, and to study the morphological indices and yield components of the selected lines. The experimental material consisted of 53 accessions of domestic and foreign provenance. Early weakly photoperiod-sensitive specimens were identified, and early weakly and late strongly photoperiod-sensitive oat forms were selected from a heterogeneous population. These genotypes can be used in breeding oats for the earliness trait without reducing the productivity of new cultivars being created in various regions of Russia.
