NORILSK NICKEL SOLD CHINA 640 MILLION DOLLARS OF NICKEL IN 2007

(Interfax)--MMC Norilsk Nickel sold 640 million dollars in nickel to China in 2007 and expects sales to increase in 2008, Norilsk Nickel General Director Denis Morozov said during a meeting in Beijing with officials from stainless steel manufacturers on April 21. Norilsk Nickel is the world's largest producer of nickel and palladium. The company produced 295,209 tonnes of nickel in 2007 and expects to produce 300,000-305,000 tonnes in 2008. The cost of nickel for immediate delivery totalled 28,645 dollars per tonne on the London Metal Exchange on April 18 and averaged 37,200 dollars per tonne in 2007. Thus, it appears Norilsk Nickel delivered roughly 17,000 tonnes of nickel to China last year.
