Norilsk Nickel posts net profit of 32.39 bln rubles in Q4 2009

Arctic mining and smelting giant MMC Norilsk Nickel this week posted net profit of 32.4 billion rubles for Q409 according to non-consolidated Russian accounting standards for its Arctic branch. Meanwhile, Billionaire Oleg Deripaska, chief executive at Norilsk's biggest shareholder RUSAL, has been nominated for election to the Norilsk board of directors. Norilsk also reported this week that it has begun the first construction phase of its transshipment port terminal in Murmansk. Norilsl moves 580,000 tonnes of cargo through the port each year. The terminal is intended as the basis for a company goods-transport logistics system with innovative, highly effective export and import technology.
